Hellboy in Love: The Art of Fire

A 2 issue limited series that serves as a pivotal chapter in the relationship between Hellboy and archaeologist Anastasia Bransfield, filling in a "missing era" of Hellboy’s life between 1979 and 1981 when he took an indefinite leave of absence from the B.P.R.D. Set in October 1979, the story finds Anastasia struggling with professional pressure from her museum superiors, who believe her relationship with Hellboy is distracting her from her research. To support her and pursue a lead on an "impossible" network of ancient occultists known as the Suaren Artea, Hellboy and Anastasia travel to the rugged landscapes of Iceland. Their investigation leads them to a hidden cave containing a witch preserved under glass. Using necromancy to awaken her, they seek knowledge about the mysterious "fire" (Vril energy) that connects occult groups across the globe. However, the revelation comes at a steep price: awakening the witch triggers a volcanic disturbance and summons ancient, tree-like golem protectors. Hellboy must defend Anastasia from these primal forces while navigating the bittersweet reality that their quiet, romantic reprieve is nearing its inevitable end.
